Softwoods
Timber such as European redwood used for skirting & architrave etc.. in second fix joinery in housing, also used for manufacturing pine furniture it is light in colour and can be stained or painted.
Hardwoods
There are hundreds of different types of hardwoods in the world, but the ones you will be most familiar with such as oak, ash, mahogany, and beech.
Oak very hard and strong withstands wear and tears, used to be used for building ships like the Mary Rose, used today for furniture manufacture also used for flooring and window frames, Doors, skirting and architraves.
Mahogany Very popular in furniture manufacturing it has a very nice reddish colour and distinguishing grain.
Ash Very light in colour used a lot in shop and office fitting.
Beech A very strong timber light in colour used in the furniture industry also has specialist uses for making laboratory equipment, workshop benchers, and catering equipment.
